She has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) once again.
Xin Yi was born with poliomyelitis (polio). Due to oxygen deprivation to her brain at birth, she also developed an intellectual disability and has been unable to care for herself throughout her life. Her immune system has always been much weaker than that of other children.
This time, she developed a persistent high fever and severe breathing difficulties, and was rushed to the hospital.
After examination, doctors found that both of her lungs were severely infected, and her condition deteriorated rapidly. She had to be transferred immediately to the ICU for emergency treatment and close monitoring.
To make matters even more critical, doctors discovered that her red blood cell count and haemoglobin levels had dropped well below the normal range. She requires an urgent blood transfusion, as the lack of healthy red blood cells could significantly reduce her body's oxygen-carrying capacity and increase the risks associated with her treatment.
Sadly, this is not the first time Xin Yi has come close to losing her life.
She was previously admitted to the ICU after suffering a severe bacterial lung infection, where she even had to rely on a ventilator to stay alive.
Ten years ago, IQ70 Plus (Persatuan Kebajikan Sayap Kasih Malaysia) welcomed Xin Yi into our care when she was just nine years old.
Back then, she could not stand, walk, or even feed herself.
Through years of dedicated care and unwavering love from our caregivers, her condition gradually stabilised, and we witnessed her make small but meaningful progress over the years.
However, because of her congenital condition, Xin Yi remains highly vulnerable to infections. Every serious illness places her life at risk.
She is currently receiving intensive treatment in the ICU, and her medical expenses continue to rise.
We urgently need to raise RM30,000 to cover her hospitalisation, ICU treatment, blood transfusions, treatment for her severe lung infection, and other related medical expenses.
