"If I can recover, the one thing I want most is to stop making my elderly parents worry about me."
As 37-year-old Cheong Chee Seng said these words, his eyes filled with tears and his voice grew soft.
Chee Seng is the only son in his family.
Since he was young, he has always worked hard to make a living and support himself.
He once worked as a hairstylist and even ran his own bak kut teh business, hoping to build a better life through his own hard work.
Unfortunately, his business eventually failed, leaving him not only without a business but also burdened with debt.
Despite these setbacks, Chee Seng refused to give up.
To continue earning a living, he became a Grab driver, working every day to make ends meet.
Little did he know that his life would change completely on what seemed like an ordinary afternoon.
【His Left Leg Suddenly Lost Strength While Helping His Father Move Things】
One afternoon, Chee Seng returned home during a break from work to help his father move some things.
While helping, he suddenly felt numbness in his left leg.
At first, he sat down to rest, thinking the numbness would go away after a while.
But his condition did not improve.
His left leg gradually became weaker until he could barely move it.
Realising something was seriously wrong, his 80-year-old father immediately rushed him to the hospital.
By the time he arrived at the hospital, his entire left leg had become noticeably swollen and cold, gradually turning a purplish-blue colour.
After emergency examinations, doctors discovered that Chee Seng had developed extensive deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his left leg.
Worse still, the blood clots were not confined to his leg.
The thrombosis had extended from his left leg into the inferior vena cava (IVC), a major vein in the abdomen. Blood clots had also travelled to both lungs, causing pulmonary embolism (PE).
【What Started as Numbness in His Left Leg Led to the Discovery of a Nearly 15cm Mass in His Abdomen】
During further examinations, doctors discovered an abnormal mass measuring approximately 6 to 7cm in Chee Seng's left testicle.
A subsequent CT scan revealed an even more alarming finding a massive growth measuring nearly 15cm deep inside his abdomen.
This large mass was already surrounding several major blood vessels in his abdomen.
Based on the current examination findings, doctors strongly suspect that Chee Seng has a malignant testicular tumour, which may have spread to the abdominal lymph nodes.
The urology team also suspects that he may have a metastatic testicular germ cell tumour.
He now urgently requires tumour marker tests and a referral to the oncology team for further evaluation and treatment planning.
What began as sudden numbness in one leg has left this family facing a devastating situation they were completely unprepared for.
【His 77-Year-Old Mother Broke Down in Tears, While His 80-Year-Old Father Was Left Helpless】
When Chee Seng's 77-year-old mother learned how serious her son's condition was, she could not hold back her tears.
For his elderly parents, their greatest fears are not only their son's health condition but also the overwhelming medical expenses that lie ahead.
【A Blood Clot Removal Device Costing RM40,000 Leaves the Family in Financial Distress】
Due to the extensive deep vein thrombosis, which has also resulted in pulmonary embolism, the medical team must carefully assess Chee Seng's blood vessels and consider further interventional treatment.
Doctors have indicated that a specialised medical device called the FlowTriever Thrombectomy Device may be required.
This device uses a catheter inserted into the blood vessels to mechanically remove blood clots through aspiration. It is primarily used to remove clots from the pulmonary arteries, helping to restore obstructed blood flow.
However, the estimated cost of this specialised medical device alone is as high as RM40,000.
This amount does not cover the entire surgical procedure. It is specifically for the blood clot removal device required during treatment.
For a family already struggling financially and burdened by life's difficulties, this is an expense they simply cannot afford.
When his 77-year-old mother and 80-year-old father heard the amount, they were completely overwhelmed and did not know what to do.
At their age, they should be enjoying their retirement years in peace. Instead, they are now facing the heartbreaking reality of their only son becoming seriously ill.
Their son is not only battling a severe blood clotting condition but may also be facing a malignant tumour.
The family simply does not have the financial means to raise such a large amount within a short period of time.
Therefore, we sincerely appeal to the public to help raise RM40,000 for the medical device, so that Chee Seng can receive the necessary blood clot removal treatment if the doctors determine that he is suitable for the procedure.
We humbly ask everyone to extend a helping hand within their means.
Whether it is a donation, a share, or a simple message of encouragement, every act of kindness could bring another ray of hope to this family facing an unexpected crisis.
We sincerely hope that 37-year-old Chee Seng will overcome this difficult chapter of his life, return to his parents' side, and slowly make up for the precious moments he missed while working hard to make a living.
